Coinciding with the visit of British Prime Minister David Cameron,
the UK-based Xchanging plc today 28 July 2010 signed an agreement
with the Karnataka government to establish a BPO Centre in Shimoga.
This is the first processing centre being set up by Xchanging in
a Tier-III town in India, Shimoga, home district of Chief Minister
B S Yeddyurappa.
Xchanging Chief Executive David Andrew, who signed the agreement
with the Karnataka government owned Electronics Development Corporation
(KEONICS) Managing Director Harikumar Jha in the presence of Yeddyurappa,
said his firm was one of the top 200 companies in the UK.
Construction on the six acre site leased to it in Shimoga SEZ would
commence in the next two months and is expected to be compeleted
in 18 months, he said.
The new centre would follow global practice in design and technology
to create a low carbon environment and set the agenda for low energy
construction in India, Andrews said.
The BPO will have an initial capacity of 1,000 people with an option
to scale up to a 2,000-seat centre.
