Bangalore : LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, on Tuesday opened a research and development centre in Bangalore, the first such facility outside of the US

Located at the Bagmane Tech Park, the LinkedIn Technology Centre will be the company's fourth office in the country after its India headquarters in Mumbai and sales offices in Gurgaon and Bangalore.

Out of over 135 million subscribers of LinkedIn, over 12 million are from India. Deep Nishar, senior vice president of products & user experience, said the company's priority would be to build a local team to develop applications relevant for professionals. The company plans to hire engineers in the areas of software, operations, data warehouse and network, as also data base administrators.

Currently LinkedIn has 70 people in India. The plan now is to recruit 25 to 30 technical persons.

The engineering operations will he headed by Ganesh Krishnan, who was previously in LinkedIn, US, and Yahoo, US, has more than 13 years of experience in building security infrastructure, product, web and information security.

LinkedIn, which was founded in 2003, has a diversified business model with revenue coming from member subscriptions, marketing solutions and hiring solutions.

The company had a spectacular IPO earlier this year. The company raised $352.8 million by selling an 8% stake.

The share price closed on the first day of trading at $94.25 on the New York Stock Exchange, up 109% from its IPO price of $45, valuing the company at $8.9 billion.
