Centre spots excellence in Bangalore traffic police



Bangalore traffic police has been conferred the Award for Excellence. The Centre's urban development ministry lauded the city traffic cops for adopting best practices for improving urban mobility through B-TRAC project.

The components of B-TRAC are installation of 179 surveillance cameras to monitor traffic movement; installation of five enforcement cameras to check traffic violations; installation of 20 variable messaging systems for dissemination of traffic information; automation enforcement for transparency in booking of cases; establishment of state-of-the-art traffic management centres to supervise and manage traffic flow.

Apart from these components of B-TRAC, citizen-friendly initiatives like creation of Citizen’s Forum, web-based interaction with citizens and innovative traffic circulation plans were also considered for award.

The Award for Excellence carries cash prize of `2.5 lakh. Home and transport minister R Ashoka received the award on behalf of the Bangalore traffic police from Kamal Nath, Union minister for urban development, on Tuesday in New Delhi.
