Indian
handicrafts are a true embodiment of beauty & passion.
Valued as the most skilled accomplishment of imagination,
it stands as a startling example of the Herculean process
of freezing the artist's perception.
Chandni, situated on the first floor of the Public
Utility Building, M.G.Road, manufactures & deals in all
types of ethnic & religious items that will suit any pocket.
One distinctive feature that will capture our eyes & heart
is the quality of workmanship that they put in all their pieces."It's
a blend of hard work, imagination, tradition & quality,
the total of which makes a true difference in this world of
art," says, Mr Sultan Thariani of Chandni.
"As such we guarantee that all our pieces will be
an asset, making every home a divine & sanctified place
with a blend of religion, tradition, culture, art & craft,"
he adds.
Chandni
has carved a position for itself, because the handicrafts
store has at any given time, 3000 to 5000 idols of
Ganesha. Mr.Sultan proudly says, "This is one place where
you find Ganesha idols in many mediums like silver, bronze,
copper, wood (sandalwood, Rosewood, white cedar and Ebony),
Terracotta, Plaster of Paris, Papier Mache, Fish bone, Synthetic
and Semi-precious stones. We have paintings of Ganesha
on marble, silk, and canvas in oil and water colour".
Mr.Sultan showed the team from Bangalorebest his unique piece
known as the Kan Drishti Ganesha. "Kan Drishti
Ganesha is famous in Tamil Nadu, where the idol's eyes look
hard at you menacingly, while in place of the mouse as Vahana,
there is the lion of Durga. A trishul and other Shiv trappings
that portray a fierce image is used as a counter
when one faces problems of Vastu and Shristi Dvesham. This
Ganesha has 51 eyes. The powers of all Gods are in one",
says Mr.Sultan showing us both the gem stone painting and
carved Ganesha in White Cedar Wood.
What can be viewed in the Chandni shop is quiet a range.
A series of Ganeshas playing drums and other musical instruments,
in a dancing pose, seated atop the seven hooded serpent, holding
lamps
.to name just a few. The sources of Ganesha are
far flung from Bengal, Nepal, Jaipur, Gujrat, Udaipur and
Delhi.
Mr.Sultan first observes work done by the traditional artisans,
and then gives then the idea to make Ganesha in their genre
of craft, for which he gives the design. And
they adapt their craft to a new dimension and have been delivering.
Mr.Raju Agarwal from Beneras, fashions Ganeshas in Meenakari
work, which is not traditionally done, and renders it to the
Chandni store's designs."Ganesha is the one God to whom
one can give any form," says Sultan pointing to a bronze
one with 21 lamps which is identified as the Millennium
Ganesha.
They also customize their products through net. The prices
can be as little as Rs 10 or as high as
Rs 50,000. So for all the Ganesha lovers, Chandni is
indeed a treasure house.
