Rajasthan,
as the name indicates is the abode of majestic kingdoms. For
over many years the land has been a witness of the glorious
past and now Thar, a unique antique shop in our city
gives an opportunity for all the antique lovers to be a part
of Rajasthan's history.
With a floor area of 6500 sq ft Thar has exquisitely designed
furniture. Every item is skilfully crafted from selected wood,
which adds elegance to your home, office or resort. The shop
also has intricate bronze idols, beautiful
wooden carvings and metal wares to suit the budget
of the middle class society.
Furniture in Thar
The furniture of Rajasthan displays grandeur and elegance.
The carved and d ecorated
chests, chairs, cradle and low tables & stools
are simply out of the world. Each object is desirable
whether inlaid with brass sheet work or painted with dancing
figures or embellished with hunting scenes. In Rajasthan,
the furniture that comes from Shekhawati holds its
unique importance in the market. This furniture is made from
local timbers like sheesham (Dalbergia sissoo), mango
(Mangifera indica), and babool or kikar (Acacia
nilotica). The furniture is available in various designs and
patterns such as Carved Furniture, Painted Furniture, Tilonia
Furniture, etc.
"The reason why Indian furniture has been regarded as
prized possession is its ethnic flavour. In spite of rapid
development in the tools
and materials used, traditional Indian woodcarvers still use
the simplest of tools and follow the style of their ancestors.
This has helped a lot in keeping the traditional crafts alive.
Nowadays the option to make it look older is also gaining
popularity. This is done by giving distressing treatment to
the furniture. The items that are given this treatment mainly
include a large variety of cabinets, cupboards, almirahs,
ethnic sofa sets, chairs, tables, frames, boxes and bajots,
and many other decorative articles. Some of the items in Thar
are replicas very close to the original and are comparatively
cheap." says Manoj, the Proprietor of Thar .
"We keep the trend alive by manufacturing beautiful home
decorating utility items & also ornately carved furniture
like Almirahs, Chests, Chairs, Tables, Partitions, etc. of
all sizes which is a source of endless fascination, exhibiting
visual & aesthetic flavour." he adds.
Maintenance of antique furniture
Anti que
furniture is usually protected by wax or oil finish. Stains
can be removed by wet cotton cloth with neutral detergent,
then wiped with a dry cloth.
Daily cleaning is done by different methods. Dirt appearing
on sculptures should be wiped with a soft bristle brush. Dirt
on surface needs to be cleaned with cotton cloth when it appears.
It would be better to cover with a piece of velvet if something
needs to be put on the table. Furniture should not be placed
on the floor unless carpet is laid on it.
So, if you want to embelish your home or office with the best
antiques 'Thar' is the right place for you.
