With an annual turnover of Rs 4,500 crore the booming textile industry
of Bangalore is helping the Silicon City to earn yet another tag
name -- the 'Garment City'. Cashing on Bangalore's international
brand value and its garment industry potential the government has
unveiled a mega plan to set up an international standard 'Apparel
Park' close to Bangalore, where all the activities starting from
procurement of material to exporting will take place at one common
point. The 32.5 crore project funded by the state and central government
will be developed as an industrial township with state-of-the-art
infrastructure under the guidance of a special purpose vehicle set
up by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, which is
the project implementing agency. The Apparel Park projects a turnover
of Rs 10,000 crore per annum and an employment potential of 50,000.
