As far as men's shirts go, the Indian market offers a range of national and international labels to choose from. Here are the ten top brands that dominate the market.

ZODIAC

Who can forget the bearded, suave Zodiac man in those classic shirts? Well, the brand has been around for over 25 years and is still going strong. Known for its quality finish and style, Zodiac is also the largest exporter of shirts to Europe. In addition, the Zodiac tie has been a perfect complement for the shirts and a symbol of class and sophistication for nearly 50 years.

LOUIS PHILIPPE

Louise Philippe from Madura Garment set the trend for international style business dressing. This brand was one of the first to herald the advent of foreign labels into India. The distinct crown crest on the cuff and a buy-back guarantee if the buyer is not satisfied made it an impressive brand.

VAN HEUSEN

This is the more formal label from Madura Garments. Van Heusen has a sophisticated image in shirt styling with crisp new fabrics and traditional cuts which spell classic dressing.

ALLEN SOLLY

This is the label from Madura Garments that changed the concept of corporate dressing as it brought in colour and the genre of Friday Dressing into India. No longer was the corporate shirt in staid blue, white, grey or beige. It was now in red, orange, yellow, green and even purple.

ARROW

It's the American business look brought to India by Arvind Clothing. It presents an image which is very Wall Street, very traditional with boardroom basic styling on one side and some real casual relaxed wear on the other.

COLOR PLUS

This is the label from the South that caused quite a sensation in the men's fashion world. The shirts are trendy, the fabrics unconventional and their styling international. Their latest stain free shirt is a practical addition to the range besides their line-up of bottom wear.

INDIGO NATION

This is the latest label from the newly-formed company Indus league in Bangalore. It's corporate and causal wear with an attention to detailing, which is subtle but interesting. It's one of the few labels that are being exported.

SCULLERS

Another label from the Indus League stable, Scullers styling inspirations are based on the Oxford and Cambridge and Harvard looks where the sport of sculling is very popular. It is formal and causal wear with a European touch.

PARK AVENUE

One of the first branded shirts, Park Avenue from Raymond has a wide collection of executive wear along with trousers, jackets and ties and other accessories. The styling is very traditional with a wide fabric choice.

VIVALDI AND PETER ENGLAND

These two brands have to be clubbed together although Vivaldi is by Bombay Dyeing and Peter England by Madura Garments. They have a loyal following because of their budget friendly pricing giving shirts for under Rs 500 and make for ideal corporate dressing.
