Spam Trouble

Spam better known as junk mail is spreading across systems like an epidemic slowing down networks and clogging inboxes. Spam is basically unsolicited bulk email sent to promote or sell products or services. These mass unsolicited emails are now frustrating a lot of internet users.

Spam has accounted between 30 to 50 per cent of the overall email traffic in the United States alone. This has led many companies into spending additional time and money in finding solutions to take care of Spam. Spam runs a bad taste among users as it clogs servers and desktops, consumes computing resources, disrupts productivity and is some times obscene too.

It is estimated that spam will cost the U.S. organisations more than $10 billion in 2003. Spammers generally find their mailing lists by email addresses posted on the internet, through trading lists or by guessing addresses.

There are a couple of companies that specialise in providing protection against Spam, offering some respite to tortured users. Symantec Singapore, are one of the world leaders in internet security. They provide a wide range of content, network security and email filtering software which help block or blacklist Spam completely.
