All these days you have been e-mailing with the universally
accepted English
language. With many areas needing to be customized, the web
also has become one. A 'multi-lingual literate' wants to use
languages of his interest and choice. What should they do then?
Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) provide
answers with its wide range of softwares, by which a person
can transact e-mail/discuss and do almost everything (in generating
text) using the language of their choice.
CDAC, formed in 1987, are pioneers in developing multi-lingual
softwares for thirteen Indian languages. Their products like
Leap Office, Shaili, the latest ISM 2000 and others are eliminating
the language barrier. These softwares provide solutions for
various applications like data processing, multimedia, Video-works
on a wide range of platforms such as Internet, Windows, UNIX,
MAC, DOS and custom built hardware.
Earlier they had developed many types of software like Apex
Language Processor, Gist Shell, Gist Card and Gist
Terminal that supported DOS. With the decline in demand,
they started coming out with different products to serve the
publishing, Internet and the entertainment industry.
At CDAC, the emphasis is on the ability to move with the
times (depending on
the application). One of the technical officers in their Bangalore
office says, "Our product LEAP Office is developed
to enable Indian languages for office applications and has
features like multilingual spell checker, dictionaries, online
keyboard and features that make the use of Indian languages
extremely easy. This software is equipped with an editor,
wherein the user could create his own page. This page could
be converted for web-based requirements with the application
of CDAC's Converter (an executable file), which is supplied
on request."
But now LEAP Office has been up graded to serve different
applications like
online communication, e-commerce, and publishing for websites
under the name ISM 2000 (ISFOC Script Manager 2000).
By incorporating ISM Office, ISM Publisher and ISM Soft with
GIST technology (Graphical and Intelligence based Script Technology),
these have come in handy for a variety of applications.
ISM 2000 assists in:
Documentation of annual reports, telephone directories
and hand books.
Communication through e-mail.
Multimedia CDs in Indian languages.
Word processing and data processing in Indian languages.
Software development to automate official process
.
Conventional and web Publishing.
ISM 2000 also supports the flexibility of configuring one's
own keyboard layout. Added to this, it provides interactivity
of the floating keyboard layout, which allows use of the mouse
to enter data. Other features include conversion of figures
to words, font/clipart previewers, date and time formatting.
They are also looking at different segments for TV, the publishing
and video industry applications with packages like MOVE
CG 2001, Chameleon CD Creator and multilingual subtitling
services. MOVE CG 2001 is a total solution for creating multilingual
characters consisting of a high-speed processor-based system.
Chameleon CD Creator provides solutions for creating Video
CD, CD-I, CD-ROM and Photo CDs. It can record and preview
digitally compressed video/audio in real time.
With many clients in the entertainment industry, ranging
from TV Channels (including Prasar Bharati) to other corporate
clients and publishing houses in India and abroad, CDAC is
focusing its efforts on enabling Indian languages to meet
the needs of the digital world.
Having a dedicated R & D team, CDAC is moving with the
technology to cater to the futuristic needs of the industry.
Their indigenous Super Computer PARAM 10000 is been widely
marketed all across the globe. With their innovative indigenous
technological expertise, they are working on many new areas
like WAP, Optical Character Recognition, voice to text, text
to voice and others. It is also having Advanced Computation
Training Schools (ACTS) all over India aimed to impart training
to candidates to become professionally competent in the IT
industry.
