Eric
Schmidt's mission statement is very clear to the Bangalore based
Novell Software Development (India) Ltd (NSDIL), the
second largest development site after the company headquarters
in Utah. NSDIL, the R&D centre, has around 300 dedicated employees,
amongst which, many senior personnel have come in from the best
IT companies of the world. Since NSDIL's incorporation in 1994,
the R&D team has been instrumental in transforming the company
into a product company in India.
Under the guidance of its dynamic Managing Director Vikram
G Shah, the company is working on various projects like
Novell Directory Systems, Network Management, Internet Protocols
and Developer Technology. Under the quality eyes of Specialised
Quality Management, the R&D team has delivered the following
software products:
Protocols: NSDIL is the single source for all protocols
within Novell. The migration agent conceived and developed here
provides the tools for existing customers to move from the proprietary
IPX environment to the standards based IP environment of NetWare
5. In addition, it develops protocols like TCP/IP, IPX/SPX,
NLSP Routing Protocol, OSPF Routing Protocol, WAN protocols
like PPP and Frame Relay, Tunneling Protocols, L2TP and Remote
access Protocols. Future protocols are TCP/IP QOS features and
implementing Video conferencing.
Distributed File Systems and Backup: Independent product
responsibility for NFS Services and Storage Management Services.
Developer Technologies: Novell packages NDS and services
as RAD components, Active X, Java Bean and UCX for use with
4GL languages and scripting solutions. And in the future, it
will be developing scripting solutions for NetWare 5, NSN, Perl,
JavaScript that are critical to get more developers to develop
applications on the NetWare platform.
Network Management: They develop complete subsystems of
the ManageWise
and ZENWork products and address Network Traffic and Desktop
Management areas with State-of-the-art java based and directory
based solutions.
GroupWise Gateways: They also develop gateways for e-mail
systems like MS-Exchange Gateway and the Lotus Notes Gateways,
cc:Mail, MSMail and Async.
The company has already patented fifteen of its products while
others in the areas of directory services, Internet security,
back-up systems and object technology are on the anvil.
In order to empower students with the latest technologies while
still studying, the company in association with Onward Novell
presented 5x50 Users NetWare Licence and 5 User Oracle license
to the reputed Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Mangalore.
