The
GDR Group, caterers to IT and entertainment industry
GDR Software Ltd is synonymous with its promoter G Dhananjaya
Reddy.
This enterprising entrepreneur has achieved much in a very short
span in the fields of software and multimedia. This Industrial
and Production engineering graduate had earlier worked with
Tata BP Solar and Reliance Software from 1993 to 1997 before
starting off on his own. Started with just twenty software engineers
and an initial investment of Rs 25 lakh, he has succeeded in
building many divisions/subsidiaries in India and abroad.
GDR Software undertakes offshore projects in the areas of customer
applications, product development, Internet, e-commerce solutions
andGeographical Information Systems (GIS). It has designed
and developed PHARMASOFT to cater to the complete needs of C
& F agents and LUSSOFT for managing a mid-sized hospital.
Realizing the need for constant improvement, Reddy went in for
strategic tie-ups with many international players like Elkay
International and Business Information Group Inc (US), Oger
International (France) and SPATIALInfo (Australia). The company
is in the process of setting up a competency centre for SPATIALInfo
in Bangalore for testing SPATIALInfo's products-Spatialnet and
Spatial data manager.
After having established its subsidiaries in New Jersey in US
recently, the company plans to set up offices in Amsterdam,
Singapore, Australia and Dubai and development centres in Mumbai
and Hyderabad. It is also attempting to acquire some small and
medium-level software companies in the US. "We are looking
out for companies suitable for our requirements," says
Reddy. For the growing need of software engineers, they are
planning to set up a GDR Academy to train young graduates.

Besides all this, his interests in multimedia led him to cater
to the high-tech entertainment industry. He forayed into the
multi-media industry with Sriram, a renowned Tamil film producer,
for both small and big screens. Now, he is setting up a digital
studio in Bangalore at an initial investment of Rs 8 crores
and intends to come out with a one-stop-shop for all the multimedia
actives that an entertainment industry needs. Reddy took over
Hyderabad-based Valueline Securities Ltd and renamed it as GDR
Telefilms Ltd, which develops television software and Internet
based business.
All this is no small achievement. But Reddy never looks complacent.
His urge to grow and become a major player in both the software
and entertainment industries are immense.
