is a gift. And not everybody is gifted with it. Nandan M.
Nilekeni, Managing Director, Infosys Technologies Ltd
is the pillar behind this mega software venture.
Born on the 2nd of June, 1955 at Bangalore, Nandan M. Nilekani
obtained his B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from IIT Bombay
in 1978. He started his professional career in the software
group of Patni Computer Systems. In 1981, he co-founded
Infosys along with six colleagues. From 1981 to 1987,
he was based in the US, managing the marketing and development
efforts of Infosys there. Since 1987, he is based at Bangalore,
and till recently was responsible for Infosys. worldwide
sales and marketing. He is currently the Managing Director
of Infosys Technologies Ltd.
Nilekani. s vision is to make India a significant player in
the global software industry. In consonance with this vision,
he has played a key role in several initiatives that have furthered
the cause of the Indian Information Technology industry. He
is also a co-founder of The National Association of Software
and Service Companies (NASSCOM).
Nilekani has been awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award
from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Nilekani is an active member of The Indo-US Entrepreneurs
(TiE), Bangalore Chapter. TiE is a non-profit global
network of entrepreneurs and professionals established to foster
entrepreneurship and nurture entrepreneurs. Set up in 1992 by
a few Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, today it has over 600 members
and has inspired and nurtured several start-up companies, worldwide.
Nilekani is a member of Securities and Exchange Board of
India (SEBI) sub-committee which has been set up to deal
specifically with the issues related to Insider Trading. Nilekani
is also on the London Business School. s Asia Pacific Regional
Advisory Board.
Finally, Nilekani is now the Chairman of Bangalore Agenda
Task Force (BATF) and is actively involved in all its operations,
the primary object of which is to improve the infrastructure
