Texas Instruments India (TI), the pioneers of the concept
of Software Technology Park in India, started operations
in Bangalore in 1985 and claims to be the earliest company to
have started IT operations in Bangalore. Since then, TI, having
established a world-class product development Centre, is working
towards its vision of being world leader in Digital Signal
Processing Solutions.
The
Company expanded its activities to include design of ICs and
software developments for applications in Electronic Design
Automation and others after taking permission from both the
Indian and American governments in mid 1988. With the establishment
of a design centre for Mixed-Signal (Linear) ICs in the same
year, TI focused on mixed-signal design methodology/cell libraries
and design of integrated circuits (IC) for telecom, multimedia
and graphic applications. Following the successful startup of
the Mixed-Signal IC design center, design activities supporting
TI's Application Specific Products (ASP) and Application Specific
Memories (ASM) were established late in 1990.
While ASP focuses on developing cell libraries, design methodologies,
and support software for TI's Application-Specific Integrated
Circuit (ASIC) and Digital Signal Processor (DSP) product families,
ASM focuses on design of memory ICs solving specific customer
problems based on TI's leading-edge Dynamic Random Access Memory
(DRAM) and nonvolatile semiconductor memory technologies.
In 1995, TI started a design center to design DSP cores for
applications in Hard Disk Drives. In 1997 the Raster Imaging
Processing (RIP) Group was set up for developing system software
and hardware for DSP-based printer controllers.
TI team and the facility: Under Srini Rajam, the
Managing Director, there are several heads taking care of individual
areas. They are Sattam Dasgupta (ASIC), Sham Bannerjee (DSP),
Rajeev Jain (MPD), Vivek Pawar (MSP), Praveen K G (RIP). While
Andrew Bhagyanathan is the Financial Controller, Mangesh Kirtane
holds the responsibility as Human Resources Director.
The present staff in the new facility of TI spread around 1,20,000
square foot is around 350, all being Indians hired in India.
The facility is equipped with all the requirements that necessitate
for advanced computing. The Bangalore centre has a capacity
to house five hundred engineers.
