At
a time when rapid urban development eats at school spaces, Bishop
Cotton Boys School has kept its spacious playgrounds intact,
a rare sight in the heart of the city. The first time visitor
stops to gaze in amazement at the vast playing fields that flank
the path leading from the main gateway to the school building.
The classrooms and interiors are equally spacious, well planned
to allow plentiful fresh air and light. The splendid school
environs match the excellent academic standards that have been
consistently maintained - not surprising, considering the man
behind it all, a man with a mission - Dr
Ebenezer, the principal.
Bishop
Cotton Boys School is one of the oldest schools in the city.
It was founded on April 19, 1865 by the Chaplain of St. Marks,
Rev. S T Pettigrew. It is affiliated to the ISC and ICSE
Boards. Spread over 13 acres, its pleasant ambience, dedicated
teaching faculty, high academic standards and excellent results
make it one of the most sought after schools in the city.
It is a residential-cum-day scholar school and pupils
from all parts of the country, the children of NRIs and a few
foreign students study here. The modern infrastructure, well
equipped library, state-of-the-art computer center cater to
the needs of students in a changing, techno savvy socio-economic
set up. If the school makes a difference, it is for its extracurricular
activities. Not many schools can boast of the activities that
they have. Every student's talent is tapped. Two days are set
apart in the beginning of the academic year just
to search for the talents of the students. These are called
the Talent Search Days. Recognition is given to class
toppers, meritorious students and those who shine in particular
extracurricular activities.
The school comes under the management and control of the Church
of South India, Karnataka
Central Diocese. It caters to borders too. The spacious
dormitories, study halls and wholesome food, both vegetarian
and non-vegetarian, are ideal for students who come from different
states within the country as well as children from other countries.
It is a home away from home where children from different cultures
learn to live in harmony, care for and respect each other.
