Edurite Technologies into E-education

" We want to e-nable students to give out their best."

Ravi and JawaharAs the Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee rightly said, IT is India's Tomorrow, city-based Edurite Technologies is gearing up to transform theface of education with their digitised study materials and innovative courses through CDs. They are also transforming the traditional class to the virtual class by providing 'customised classes' and other online services.

Bangalorebest.com
spoke to G S Ravi, Director of Edurite, about the response to the hi-tech educational products and courses they are pioneering. ·

How did you to come out with this rather novel concept of digital education?

To teach a subject completely, you need to reach out to the student. In schools, colleges and other institutions, a teacher addresses the whole class. There is very little or no individual attention given. This, in turn, has a bearing on the pupil's understanding. When it comes to education with CDs that have special features like video clippings, detailed narration of subjects coupled with interactive facilities, a whole new experience of learning is facilitated.

Since education is a noble field, we thought of getting into this mode of education. Funding was not a problem for us as many IT bigwigs like B V Jagadeesh, Dr Sridhar Mitta and others were very appreciative of our efforts and came forward to offer funds for this venture.

Could you tell us something about the study material that you have released through CDs?

For the state board's tenth standard, we've released CDs on science andmathematics. Science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology are covered for the state board's twelfth standard (II PUC). We digitised all the course material in just three months. The same subjects are also covered for the Central board's curriculum (CBSC).

Apart from these, we've released CDs for the Common Entrance Test (CET) carried out by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu states. And for engineering students, all the subjects of the first year are covered. Among the third semester subjects, we've released CDs on Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, Electronics and Communication.

How is the response?

The response is a mixed one. CET and engineering materials are quite popular. Students are slowly becoming aware of this new way of learning at home as PC penetration is still in the initial stages. Bangalore and Mangalore are showing tremendous response. Even in districts like Belgaum, Hubli and Dharwad there is a good response.

How do you position your products when there is still a strong hold of traditional classes and tuitions?

We always advice students to get the most out of classes and tuitions. Our products will only supplement them. But when it comes to revision of the entire year's subject, these CDs will come in handy.

How is your online support 'Edumentor' helping students?

Our CDs encompass almost all the information that a student needs in that particular subject. If he/she finds something is missing, he/she can always mail his/her queries/doubts via 'edumentor' and our experts will revert back to him/her within seventy-two hours.

On what key aspect does Edurite base its promise to students - Score more for sure?
A student may think he has answered well enough to get 90 per cent in theScore more for sure with us examination, but may end up with lesser marks than expected. It is here that our CDs really help students score better. Our CDs have model answers written by experts who are also valuators of the examination papers. Since valuators write it, students can rely on these answers to give out the best expected of them to score more for sure!

How do you justify the price of your products?

Edurite CDs have good features like animations, video clippings and interactive facilities. The best teachers compose the study materials here. Our CDs are up-graded/up-dated every year as per the syllabus prescribed by the educational boards. When it comes to tuitions, a well-established teacher may ask a hefty fee that the student may find difficult to meet. Our CDs are economical when compared to all these aspects.

G S Ravi added that in future their company planned to provide services in the IT field coupled with science and engineering. By mid 200, they are planning to come out with many software kits and learning centres to enable IT aspirants to become IT professionals. Their long-term plan is to bring IT to the common man.
