'The
Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) on Seshadri Road
is ranked amongst the best in the country. It started in 1969
as the Food Craft Institute, offering short-term courses.
In 1983 it was renamed and it started offering 3 year Diploma
Course in Hotel Management. Today, the institute is regarded
as one of the premier Institutes in the country to train aspirants
in hospitality industry.
The Bangalore Institute was set up jointly by the Government
of India and the Government of Karnataka. The Institute of
Hotel Management, Bangalore has maintained its impeccable
reputation for quality education and as a result finds its
students placed in all the leading hotels in India and around
the world.
The
institute is equipped with all the modern techniques and provides
lots of facilities for the students.
The Front Office Lab trains students to handle
the situation, role-playing and other front office related
exercises and also property management systems, accounting,
etc.
A Video Production Lab equipped with state-of-the-art
equipment where the final year students are encouraged to
produce training films as part of their class projects and
a Computer Lab, which is equipped with 30 terminals having
Internet connections.
A
Laundry with automatic modern equipments has
also facilities to train students for the Guest room management.
There are two well-equipped 40 seater Restaurants for the
students to get the ambience of work in a restaurant.
A Library, which is stocked with the
latest books, periodicals, and journals both national and
international which covers all aspects of Hotel, Tourism,
Hospitality, Travel and Management. The library also has a
good collection of videotapes on all aspects related to hotel
management, which can be viewed by the students. It also has
a multi-media resource, enabling students to access Internet
and the students are encouraged to use the free e-mail facility.
There
are five Food Production labs, which
are equipped with imported equipment. Here they practically
experience the preparation of various foods. Later the students
and the staff members of the institution relish these foods.
Outstanding students can earn scholarships, which are awarded
by Government of India, The National Council for Hotel Management,
New Delhi, The Oberoi Scholarship, Hotel and Food Service,
Mumbai.
