Electronics
Today, a monthly magazine on electronics, had organized
the largest Indian four-day trade show on electronic components
recently at Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bangalore. S Swarn,
who is also its Editor-in-Chief, started India's oldest

the country.
Prior to the launch of the journal, Swarn had compiled and edited
India's first Electronic Directory and Reference Book "Guide

Electronics Today has many firsts to its credit:
First-ever electronic exhibition in India - 'Electronic

back in May 1969.
India's first fortnightly, tabloid newspaper, Electronic
Review, was launched by Electronics Today in 1972, which survived
up to 1986.
For
the past three decades, Electronics Today has been organising
focussed international conferences and exhibitions to highlight
upcoming technology trends in electronics and Information Technology,
supported by the Government of India, UNDP, UNESCO and other
International and National bodies. Some of the topics covered
were: Convergence of computer and communications (1987), Value
Added Telecom Services (1991), Multimedia computer and Communications
(1972), Globalisation of computer and Communications 1993, Wireless
Computer communications (1994), Electronics Technology in Banking

For

an International conference on Smart Cards Technology and Applications,
in Mumbai in 1997, followed by a similar International conference
in Bangalore in 1998. These culminated into a full-fledged annual
international event that is Smart Cards Expo'99 held in New
Delhi in September 1999.
Swarn, who was instrumental in the formation of Smart Card
Forum of India (SCAFI), in September 1999, is the Secretary
