Uma - Look good in seconds

Outdoing her own performance is something Uma Jayakumar, popularly called ‘One Minute Uma’, has been doing for many years. Be it in hairstyling or bridal grooming, she could do it for you in minutes. But going by her latest record, it’s now only going to take a few seconds for her to get women dolled up.
Uma has been registering in the Limca Book of Records for four years now (2004-2007) for outdoing her own speed every year. Uma

Quick make-up

The shift to ‘Few seconds Uma’ happened at a show held recently in the presence of Aarati Muthanna Singh, Editor of Limca Book of Records. At the event, Uma worked on styling 63 people — with hairdressing for each taking 33 seconds. And what’s more, all this standing on an ice block. With this, she has created a new record in the Limca Book of Records for the year 2008 and earned herself a new title as well — ‘Few seconds Uma’.
In keeping with present day scenario, where time is amongst the most valued, Uma’s fast paced make-up method works wonders for women. They can look and feel good in seconds.

Uma Jayakumar, a resident of Mahalakshmi Layout, took up this challenge and proved that make up, need not be an elaborate process. Instead, it can one be done in minutes, is easy and need not be restricted to certain occasions alone.
Uma, who started her career as a beautician 23 years ago, runs a salon of her own called Uma’s Bridal, a diploma college for courses in grooming and has a show on television where she shares with the viewers, tips on skin and hair care among others. She has also conducted several workshops in India as well as abroad.

Lending a helping hand

Apart from being an entrepreneur, Uma trains thousands of girls who have hearing and speech impairment in the hope of enabling them to become self sufficient and lead an independent life.
So how did Uma achieve as much success? “The will power to do something will always make things possible and anything is possible if you believe in it. I also follow the four Cs’ — Concentration, Confidence, no Compromise and no Confusion — which lead to success,” says Uma.
