Think designer, think Gurlz, the fashion house for happening
women. Here
you will find a good range of casuals and semi-formal clothing
for girls of all age. 'Gurlz' a seven month-old boutique exclusively
for women, is a fairly new venture in the Bangalore fashion
scene by Urmila Talyarkhan, the MD of the well-known
Darmilla group.
Today, 'Gurlz' in Safina Plaza is managed by Kanchan.
Bangalorebest.com spoke to her on the growing popularity
of the boutique.
Darmilla was established by Urmilla Talyarkhan 20 years ago.
Initially, it all started by supplying  embroidered
beaded panels to designers in Europe. This was a very good experience
as Urmilla came into contact with the best in the industry and
learnt quickly and extensively about quality and execution of
well-made garments. Today, they have promoted two new brands
in India, Gurlz - Casual and Night wear, Lolita - Weekend and
Sleep wear, which have become quiet a rage with people who have
a taste for good clothing in Mumbai, Kolkata, Podicherry, Hyderabad
and now in Bangalore too!
"Gurlz is popular because of the different sizes available.
We specialize in casual and semi-formal clothing for women and
one can find UK sizes 6-18 here. These sizes are huge and unavailable
in other boutiques!" says a beaming Kanchan.
Embroidered Capris, hipsters, denims, skirts, tops, tube-tops,
draw string  pants,
draw string skirts, shorts, semi-formal pants, shirts, embroidered
kurtas and other attractive items of clothing can be bought
here. Customers are a mixed lot, comprising youngsters and older
women. Designs and patterns are never repeated as there is a
constant arrival of new stocks of designer garments every month.
Each piece is unique and around 500 designs are available here.
"Bangalore has undergone a drastic change within a span of
two years. People have become very fashion conscious today,
thanks to the media! People today know what they want to wear
and what suits them best," explains Kanchan.
Exhibitions of export garments are held here once in 2-3 months
and a good discount is offered too. A shirt here costs between
Rs 200-1000, trousers between Rs 600-1000 and skirts are available
in the Rs 500-600 range.
"The symmetric-cut is 'in' right now! Kurta-cut tops with
embroidery is in-vogue. Our staff are friendly and helpful.
The customer service here is very efficient," says Kanchan.
