Co me
December and even the most avid partygoer can feel like Cinderella
stepping out to meet her prince. Numerous invitations can leave you
confused and dazed about what to wear and where to wear what.
Here's a list of some very important accessories to keep you in a
state of preparedness for the coming party season:
A little black dress:
Though this technically doesn't qualify as an accessory, it lays the
foundation for the rest. What's nice is that you can wear it to a
cocktail party and a funeral! There's no two ways about it - you need
one in your wardrobe! A simple strappy number will flatter your neck
and shoulders. Short is hot but if you're planning to attend a New
Year gala, it's better left ankle-length. Buy blends and decide if
you want a floaty number or a tantalizingly tight one. It doesn't
matter if it's designer, get one that fits well.
Gold accessories:
You're in for a surprise if you thought gold was limited to jewellery
or embroidery on saris. It's time that you were introduced to the
colour of the season - gold! Shoes, clothes, accessories, makeup and
nail colour - the choices are exciting! You can look spectacular and
dramatic in this season's latest gold strappy sandals. Team it with
a purse or just plain dazzle the crowd by wearing an eye-catching
gold dress or sequined skirt or top. And if you think that too much
of flash is trash, then you can wear a beige cashmere sweater with
a comfortable pair of trousers (brown would be a good choice) and
accessorize it with gold jewellery.
A sequined purse:
This item must be given its due credit and hence the special mention.
Gold is a good choice but you can experiment with different colours
that complement your outfit. Buy one that's big enough to contain
your keys, lipstick and vanity, and small enough to be discreet. Imagine
your purse making more of a statement than the dress you've spent
a fortune on.
A stole:
It's winter, and so make sure you don't catch a cold! Plus stoles
are very dramatic when teamed with a strapless gown or dress. If you
have a black dress, complement it with a bright colored stole. 'Jamevar'
stoles from Cottage Industries are also great. Even though they're
expensive, they are really worth it. Try and avoid mixing prints.
For instance, try and get a stole in a solid colour if your dress
has prints or vice versa. Try red and turquoise blue, they're also
colours that are in for winter.
A lovely perfume:
Applied on all the pulse points, perfume makes you feel sensual and
irresistible. A good perfume can get you raring to go. Don't wear
the same perfume that you generally wear during the day. Get a heavier,
oriental fragrance for the evening. Flirty florals are also a good
choice.
Mints:
Something you just can't ignore. Clorets and after-eights are perfect.
Don't forget to have them on hand.
Diamonds:
Diamonds were and are a girl's best friend, and nobody would raise
any objections to that. Diamonds look great in simple designs. Solitaires
on your ears, neck and fingers are the best choice. However, smaller
diamonds set in gold are also perfect for evening-wear. Tanishq also
has a very good range of diamond jewellery. Hey! But nobody said it's
criminal to sport American diamonds. They're cheaper and pretty, and
really, who can make out the difference?
With all of the above in place, it would really be impossible not
to have a great time. So go ahead and party!
