The Malleswaram branch of State Bank of Mysore has become
the first
branch to offer special services to its customers with Telebanking.
The service allows the bank to give customers basic information
via the telephone.
Information at fingertips: Customers need to just
dial up to the branch and enter their password, which is unique
to each account holder. The new facility also meets the secrecy
act by enabling the customer to change his password accordingly
through the phone. The system has an interactive facility,
wherein the customer can get basic information like account
balance, statement of account, rate of interest and foreign
exchange rates.
When bangalorebest.com asked J K Dubey, the Chief
Manager of the branch on how the new service helps the customers,
he said, "Since ours is an old and established bank, there
are many customers associated with us. It helps them and others
who come in from far off places to a greater extent."
J K Dubey also highlighted the importance of the service
to businessmen, who can get the relevant information on their
fax itself. By pressing a few buttons, he can monitor his
bank accounts easily via fax, he said. Dada Amar, founder
of Dada Amar Charitable Trust, unveiled this facility recently.
Apart from this, the bank also has ATM facilities. Starting
with the Malleswaram branch, the management plans to extend
telebanking to other branches in Karnataka and other states.
SBM Managing Director M Sitaram, who was present on the inaugural
day, said that SBM plans to provide online banking facilities
to consumers in Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Hubli
and Mysore by mid 2001. This is good news for time constrained
city dwellers.
