Japanese
culture is aesthetic and ancient. Dahlia has contributed
immensely when it comes to the food style of the Japanese.
Dahlia, an authentic Japanese restaurant on Church Street, is a
place for you to visit if you like experimenting. 'Dahlia' is the
name of a Japanese flower. The restaurant is a part of the Yamanaga
Hotels and Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, having another branch at
Chennai. But it is not just the Japanese that Dahlia caters
to. There are people from various continents as well as Indians
who freak out on the food here.
The restaurant's ambience gives you a Japanese home atmosphere,
with the kind of seating arrangement, the crockery and the cutlery.
For those who cannot sit on the floor (in Vajrasaana or yoga posture)
there are chairs. To begin they serve Japanese tea and then you
can choose your order of 'Teishoku' (a set meal that has
rice, soup, a side dish and pickles) or 'a la carte. Adding to its
authenticity, Dahlia adorns its walls with beautiful prints that
reflect the seasons.
Talking of Japanese cuisine, one just can't afford to miss the Sushi
- rice topped with fish like Matsu and
Take (Tuna, Halibat, Shrimp, Cuttle fish with Miso soup)
and the Sashimi - plain sliced raw fish. Besides this, they
also serve Teri Yaki - fish marinated in special sauce and roasted.
They also serve vegetarian dishes, Tempura - fried vegetables.
If you are looking for some authentic noodles, then you have Udon
or Soba noodles. Not to forget, this place does not provide
you with spoons but chopsticks, so learn before you go!
The restaurant is open from 12 pm to 2.30 pm and from 6.30 pm to
9.30 pm (Japanese food culture looks at early eating and fast eating)
on all weekdays except Sunday. Teishoku - a set meal costs Rs 400/-
+ tax and 'a la carte costs about Rs 600/- + tax (for two).
