Rim Naam - By the Water

The Rim Naam team
Ever wondered why Thailand was never conquered in all its history? Well, chances are that all potential invaders dropped their weapons and picked up cutlery instead.

No wonder, the unique flavours of Thailand have today conquered the world's palate. In Thailand cooking is almost like a popular traditional art and the Thais are proud of their culinary skills.

Rim Naam, the Thai restaurant at The Oberoi, Bangalore, is nestled in an enchanting quiet corner amidst a fish pond, under the spreading boughs greenery. This explains its name, which means 'by the water'. >A dish prepared with crabIt is an island restaurant surrounded by water. It has a lovely cave entrance that leads into a lush green artificial jungle reminiscent of verdant Thailand.

The typical Thai setting with a coastal ambience, water and slanting roof is the perfect place to settle down to mouthwatering Thai delicacies. In an environment that reflects serenity, the emphasis of the cuisine is on freshness and quality. Frozen ingredients are taboo here. All the ingredients are imported directly from Thailand to maintain the originality and authenticity of the flavour.

A Thai serving tray. There is a saying in Thailand that a restaurant that can cook 'Tom Yam Kong' soup is the perfect restaurant. So, a conventional Thai meal would start with Tom Yam Kong (a spicy clear soup with prawns). At the Rim Naam, the menu is extensive and offers popular Thai delicacies like Tom Kha Kai (Coconut based soup with chicken), Pad Thai (Fried rice noodles with prawns), Kai Hor Bai Toey (Marinated chicken wrapped in pandan leaves and deep fried) and many more.

Chef Boon Song, has eight members to help him. An average meal for two would cost Rs1200/. A Thai meal rarely makes one feel full and heavy. All the recipes are flavoured with herbs, curry pastes and lemon grass. Rim Naam's speciality is its the live kitchen, where you can pick your own live fish, crab or any other sea-food and have the chefs prepare it right in front of you. The irresistible aroma of the food being cooked before your eyes works like a strong appetizer!

"My special dish is Khai Yat Sai (Omelette stuffed with pork, chicken and bell pepper) which is a very interesting dish,"
says a happy Boon Song.

Rim Naam has become a habit to many celebrity customers on all the days except Mondays, when it remains closed . Business peaks on Sunday afternoons and at night. This cozy Thai restaurant's quaint beauty is truly apparent at night, with the delicate lighting adding an air of romance to the place

Rim Naam can accommodate 55 people at a time and the whole place can be booked in advance for private parties too. This open air restaurant with its live sea food counter, on the spot cooking, informal atmosphere and friendly staff makes dining here an unforgettable experience.

Let Rim Naam, the enchanting and romantic hideaway, conquer your senses!
