If not for Topkapi, Bangaloreans might have never known the splendour
of Turkey. Named after one of the royal palaces in Istanbul, Topkapi
- a multi cuisine restaurant, offers more than just food. Their
service extends to all aspects of Turkish culture.
The cuisine includes Indian, Continental and Chinese.
Their specialities are the Turkish items like KARNIYAREK (sliced
aubergine, combined with tomatoes, green pepper, onions and parsley.
It is slowly cooked in butter and its own juices to give a distinctive
flavor) and the TURKISH BOREK (deep fried pancakes stuffed
with spinach and chicken). The Indian delicacies include AMRITSARI
MACCHLI (fresh fish marinated with lemon juice; flavored with
ajwain and deep fried), and MURG SHEKAMPURI (a delicacy
from the splendor of the royal courts of Rajas; chicken tikka cooked
with tomatoes, onions, capsicum, mint leaves and flavored with shahi
jeera) and a cocktail of rotis (nan/kulcha/paratha), depending
on the selection, offered nowhere in South India.
Strategically
located on the 24th floor of the Public Utility Building
on M.G. Road, Topkapi offers a panoramic view of Bangalore.
The sights include the area around the airport, Ulsoor Lake, Vidhana
Soudha and the High Court. The scene either by day or night is appealing
and all the twenty-three seats by the window are always booked.
The 3,300 sq ft restaurant has a seating capacity of 108 and a standard
meal for two would cost around Rs 500/-
"The windows are made of bullet proof glass. They are sound and
wind proof and offer an enjoyable sight to the customer without any
risk," says Mr Vijay Singh, Chairman of the Dynasty group.
It
boasts of the latest equipment in the kitchen and has a well equipped
bar, which serves both Indian and foreign liquor. It has a modern
discotheque (but unfortunately, the license has been revoked). The
interiors are tastefully done. The flooring is Italian marble
and the chandeliers are gold plated.
Mr
Singh also says that,"Our continental food is comparable to international
standards and our Chinese food is very popular. The only comparable
place is one in Singapore on the 56th floor. The hotel is a fancy
for children. We are very professional in our approach and the children
are escorted by the staff when they wish to look out through the window."
Diners Club adjudged Topkapi as one of the finest restaurants in Bangalore
for Diners Club Food Utsav 1999.
