"Thanks to Tibetan medicines! I was suffering
from chronic bronchial asthma for 30 years and after under
going the treatment here, I feel so relieved now, it was really
miraculous," wrote Ms Kripa. She was one among the
many who wrote similar comments in the visitor's dairy of
Tibetan Medical Centre, Bangalore.
Tibetan
Medical Centre, a branch of the Tibetan Medical and Astrological
Institute (Men-Tsee-Khang) a cultural, educational
and charitable centre, began operations in 1961 under the
direct patronage of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, to
impart traditional knowledge to the younger generation. The
primary objective of this centre is to preserve and promote
the unique traditional Tibetan Systems of Medicine. The Tibetan
medical theory is based on five proto elements of nature,
Sa (Earth), Chu (Water), me (Fire), rLung
(Wind) and
Nam-mkha(Space).
"We have a holistic approach to every ailm ent
which not only cures the diseases but also treats the root
cause of the problem. The medicines used here are purely herbal
recipes, manufactured at Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. Tibetan
medicine is one of the oldest known medical traditions and
is as old as our civilisation. The medicines don't have any
side effects," says Dr Dorjee Rapten Neshar, Chief
Medical Officer of the Bangalore Branch.
"People come here from different parts of India for
treatment. Mostly patients come in advanced stages of the
disease, after trying different types of medicines. The improvement
will be slow and steady. We have a solar and lunar calendar,
we will fix the date and give special treatments like Gold
Therapy, Moxa Bustion and Bronze Cupping only on certain
days synchronizing both the calendars according to the energy
flow of the body in order to avoid toxic effects of the environment,"
adds DR Dorjee.
In
addition to many common ailments, it offers very effective
treatment in controlling and curing many major diseases like
asthma, arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, general cardiovascular
problems, nervous disorders, gynecological problems, gastrointestinal
disorders, chronic cold and allergic problems and psycho somatic
problems. The diagnosis is carried mainly through interrogation,
pulse and urine examinations.
It
started its Bangalore operations in 1991 and was sponsored
by the Mr Bagaria of the Bagaria Educational Trust. Mr Bagaria,
when once in Kushal Nagar, Coorg, underwent treatment at the
Tibetan Medical Centre there and was fascinated by the idea,
which led him to sponsor the branch at Bangalore.
The Tibetan Medical Centre in collaboration with the All
India Institute of Medical Sciences conducted researches on
non-insulin dependent Diabetes Mellitus and Cancer treatment
such as pain management, longevity and formulation of new
Medicines.
