can strike anyone, anywhere, anytime. The care and treatment of cancer
afflicted patients can cost a small fortune, leaving those affected
drained physically, emotionally and financially. Now there is a novel
scheme that offers insurance coverage for the treatment of cancer.
The good news is that it is the cheapest scheme in the world - truly
a boon to patients who are otherwise too poor to afford proper treatment.
Kidwai Cancer Care Foundation Trust and Kidwai Memorial Institute
of Oncology has introduced the Cancer Insurance Scheme called 'CAT'
- Care Against Tumor during a lifetime.
Anyone is eligible for this insurance coverage on a one-time payment
of Rs 1000. The trust is committed to provide treatment up to
Rs 1,00,000. This treatment also includes diagnostic investigations
and management of disease, including ward charges in a semi-private
ward.
Eligibility
Any Indian citizen who is not diagnosed as a cancer patient, of any
age and sex, is eligible to enroll for this scheme. The eligibility
starts after two years of enrolment. There are special schemes wherein
entire families can enroll.
Type of Insurance fees:
- Single membership: Rs 1,000/-
- With Spouse: Rs 1,800/-
- Member, spouse and one child: Rs 2,200/-
- Member, spouse and two dependent child: Rs 2,500/-
- Any other member of the family: Rs 800/-
Terms and conditions :
- 'CAT' scheme is non refundable, non transferable. Once paid
it is valid for a lifetime.
- Cost of treatment in other hospitals before being referred
to KIMO cannot be reimbursed.
- This scheme will not cover diseases other than proved cancer.

Forms for enrolment as a member of CAT are available at the office
of the secretary, Kidwai Care Foundation Trust/Kidwai Memorial Institute
of Oncology or at designated banks in Karnataka.
