T he
right kind of linen can transform an ordinary looking room into a
vibrant one. Svisti, a new showroom exclusively for linen,
blankets and carpets on Cunningham Road has an amazing array
of home linen at very affordable prices. The attractive window display
showcases rich bed spreads, blankets and carpets.
When Gaurav Jain, the proprietor of Svisti, came to Bangalore
in 1995 along with his parents, Mr and Mrs Omprakash Jain, they failed
to trace a single store that sold all linen draperies under one roof.
They hit upon the idea of opening an outlet exclusively for linen
in the city. Their dream was fulfilled on November 29, 2000, and
Svisti was opened. "We go to many places in southern and north ern
states to procure a variety of linen for our shop," says Omprakash
Jain.
At Svisti one can find bedspreads, comforters, razaiis, cushion covers,
duvets, carpets, tablemats, pillowcases and napkins, and many other
things sourced from all over India. According to Gaurav Jain, presently
they are concentrating on bed-linen. Some of the varieties available
at Svisti's include Chikan work bedspreads from Lucknow, mirror work
and thread worked bed spreads and blankets from Rajasthan and Gujarat,
embroidered wall hangings from Kolkata. From the south, the famous
Hyderabadi Kalamkari or Ikkat and Pochampalli handloom linen are sold
here.
 Another
speciality about the shop is its spaciousness and lighting arrangement,
which allows customers to spread out the linen and check the varieties
comfortably before they buy the items of their choice. Spread over
two floors, Svisti has a large collection in a variety of styles and
colours. The Jains say that they personally go to the weavers and
select the best linen. "So far, the response from our customers has
been very good. But our showroom is still to gain publicity," says
the Jains. Svisti has no branches.
Elegant need not necessarily translate into expensive. At Svisti's,
you can pick up beautiful home décor linen that is easy on your purse.
