Your walls are practically bare and your bank balance is not
much better. All you've
got is a couple of not-too-expensive prints. You really can't afford
expensive paintings, prints or wooden sculptures. And you can't figure
out what you can put on your walls that will add some color and character
to the room.
Actually, there's plenty you can do. All you need to do is let your
imagination run wild for a while. Here are some ideas to set
you thinking.
That old, treasured dinner set that grandma used, has now been
reduced to just a couple of odd plates. You don't use the set anymore
so why not make the most of them? Have them mounted and put up on
the wall, either in a corner of your living room or in the dining
area. You could also get some beautiful old plates for very
reasonable prices in antique markets.
To fill a larger expanse, say behind a three-seater sofa, consider
using a hand embroidered rug or 'dhurrie' that you may have
bought from an emporium or inherited from Mum.
Textiles, instead, are an ideal option for those window-facing walls.
A patchwork quilt, an embroidered tablecloth or even
just a cross-work motif could be used to adorn these walls.

Wall brackets, either wooden or wrought iron, are attractive
in themselves and displaying artefacts on them further enhances their
charm. A piece or two of your crystal collection, an attractive vase
or even a pair of porcelain figurines would look great up there. You
could even stand a mirror up on one of these stands and enjoy the
extra light and space it adds to the room.
Potted plants are another great option - why restrict them
to the floor? Creepers such as money plants or spider plants in small
attractive pots make a pretty impact if displayed at a height, on
a wall bracket. Your favorite bonsai, which you've patiently nurtured
for years, would also find the platform it deserves.
You could even consider displaying your own creativity if you so desire.
Your age-old collection of stamps, costume jewellery, coins or
even locks would make interesting displays. So would a bunch
of family photographs with different decorative frames.
An interesting arrangement would be to place a lamp on a pile of your
old hard-bound books or hand-painted pots stacked against the wall.
Now better start thinking up some ideas of your own!
