The store was opened one year ago by a team of four National Institute of Design graduates, S Sundar, Jacob Mathew, John Mathew and Anand Aurora who specialise in furniture-design. According to K P Ignatius, one of the two managers of the showroom, another associate, Neelam Chibbar, specialises in sourcing eco-friendly home décor goods and showcase pieces from rural India for The Design Store.

Ignatius told bangalorebest.com that the team behind The Design Store had four years of experience in designing furniture and sourcing eco-friendly goods and artefacts for the house-proud.

The novel designs of the furniture at The Design Store suit the requirements of modern living. The innovative designs add a sense of spaciousness to the room. The materials used are primarily whitewood, glass and wrought iron, the exception being jute, cane and plastic wires for some pieces. The indoor furniture on display at the store includes cots, dining chairs, tables, sofa sets, small office tables, centre tables, lounge chairs, computer tables, etc.

Apart from furniture, there are many utilitarian items for the home like hand woven straw and cane mats, a large collection of hand-painted and lacquered wooden toys from Channapatna, boxes, pen-holders and bowls, designer wall clocks, paper weights, and coasters. Also available are smart hand-bags, ethnic cushions, bell-metal ware, and stone and metal artefacts. The store also sells some art works.
