Pinnacle
Industries Ltd., Indore has entered into a joint venture with
Saporiti of Italy, called Pinnacle Saporiti. The Pinnacle Saporiti
collaboration is the first overseas tie up for Saporiti in its
50 years of existence.
Intensive efforts have gone into setting up of a modern and
automated manufacturing facility and the latest machines have
been imported for the project. The Pinnacle staff has undergone
extensive training at the Saporiti factory in Italy and in India.
The objective of this joint venture is to produce furniture
for both the Indian and the export markets. Exports to Italy,
Japan and North America will commence through the Saporiti global
network. The furniture will be marketed under the Pinnacle Saporiti
brand name in India.
The Company is in the process of setting up an exclusive dealer
network across the country. On the anvil are 20 Pinnacle Saporiti
showrooms in nine cities by the end of the year, three of which
are already functional in Pune.
Pinnacle Saporiti furniture is designed by top International
designers and architects who are amongst the foremost exponents
of modern and
post-modern architecture. It is characterised by advanced industrial
design and use of high quality material. The product is completely
Eco-friendly, as there is little or no use of wood. The product
is made from specially treated non-deformable steel structures,
injected polyurethane and special coverings, which provide for
a lifetime of use.
Despite importing the special polyurethane used by Saporiti
and the exclusive fabric used on its furniture, Indian manufacture
will be cheaper largely due to lower labour costs. Already,
Saporiti has discontinued a few of its production lines in Italy,
and transferred them to the Indore facility. Saporiti exports
over 90 per cent of its products worldwide, much of it in the
Far East. "Our major markets are Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong,
besides Europe and North America. I had been touring South East
Asia for the past three years looking for a place to set up
base. My search ended with Pinnacle," says Mr Saporiti.
Pinnacle's
manufacturing process for automobile seats is similar to that
employed by Saporiti Italia, which uses a mild steel frame under
a special polyurethane mould, upholstered in a choice of fabric
covering. Another factor that influenced the setting up of the
manufacturing base in India was the nature of Saporiti's business.
A major chunk of its business comes from specialised contract
manufacturing -- for airport and hotel lobbies, conference halls,
and the like.
The Saporiti Italia collection has always been synonymous with
elegant and practical furniture. The company is famous for the
decoration of elegant homes, executive offices, theaters, hotels,
banks and restaurants. The United Nations Organisation Headquarters
in Geneva, the Food and Agriculture Organisation Conference
Centre in Rome, the Sheraton Luxury Collection at Grand Hotel
Patria in Lecce, the Benetti Princes Maria Yacht, the Banque
generale du Luxembourg in Luxembourg City, are among its prestigious
clients. Its modelsare displayed in the most important museums
of modern art, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York,
the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the M.U.K.A.
of Antwerp and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
