Bangalore's
booming IT industry now demands buildings made to specification. It
incorporates the unique security and connectivity requirements that
this sector functions in. The design and construction of these buildings
is determined to a large extent by the lifestyle and functioning of
IT professionals. An IT organisation basically comprises three zones,
the technology area, the communication area and the enterprise area.
Functions like software designing and coding take place in the technology
and communication area. Hence, it is a zone that is a/c and power
intensive. On the other hand, the enterprise area is where functions
such as ecommerce happen. It can be a workstation with lesser infrastructure
back-up.
Taking into consideration the needs of the three zones, the building
should have adequate power and phone connectivity. When a company
sets up an office in any location, it should pay particular attention
to finer details like the availability of power and whether permission
will be granted to lay the required phone lines.
The IT professionals job is extremely stressful and they need to relax.
Most IT corporate houses provide adequate recreational faci lities
like swimming pools, gyms, basketball and tennis courts and good cafeterias.
The skyrocketing salary this sector offers makes it mandatory for
office buildings to provide a huge car park. The builders in Bangalore
are realising this and working towards putting up complexes that are
suitable to IT firms.
Most IT companies demand office space of 10,000 sq.ft. or more. Small
and medium IT firms prefer to move into fully furnished offices. This
means a strategic shift in design and concept too. Preferably, the
building should have a flat roof with very few pillars, which increases
the floor space inside. A smart building takes into consideration
factors such as wiring that optimises connectivity, windows with ultra
violet rays protected glasses and direct connections from ISPs.
A partments
are going the smart way too. Builders are making sure that apartments
come with high speed net connections so that a person can come home
and work on the net rather than stay back late in office. Other gizmos
include burglar alarms that are connected to modems and triggers a
siren at the office of the security services, and panic switches that
dial the police station automatically when hit.
The way we live, the way we think, the way we work - everything is
being influenced by the IT revolution. The buildings of Bangalore
reflect this change too. They are all going the high-tech way.
