From 1971 to 1979 Prakash Padukone dominated the Indian badminton
scene, winning major titles at home and abroad, including the All
England Championships. The present top players like Aparna
Popat and Gopichand, both the current National champions,
seem to be following his winning touch. The game has given a new ray
of hope to the young players to make it big. Bangalore will surely
produce a crop of Popats and Gopichands in the near future. There
are a few prominent clubs and resorts in and around the city with
badminton courts to promote this sport.
