The
Bangalore Club
 The
Bangalore Club, initially called 'The Polo Club',
was later rechristened 'Bangalore United Services Club',
meant exclusively for the defence personnel. Affluent civilians
of European lineage were later included in the club rolls.
The club survived primarily due to the efforts of one man,
Brigadier R.C. Hill. Today, its members form the cream
of the society and many others are still desperate for a membership.
The Club organises the 'May Queen Ball' every year.

Founded
as a Literary and Scientific Institute in 1868, with the aim
of promoting "Intellectual and Moral Improvement in the
Young Men of Bangalore", it initially functioned as
a reading room in rented premises. The then Commissioner
of Mysore & Coorg, L.B. Bowring, was made its President.
Later, when the Bowring Fund was raised and the Management Committee
merged the Institute with the Fund, 'The Bowring Institute'
was officially born. The club's sporting facilities are one
of the best available in Bangalore and many serious sports persons
use the facilities of this club.The Library is one of the oldest
in Bangalore and the collection of books is enormous.
