She
is often referred to as the 'mermaid of the swimming pool'. Born on
20th December, 1983, Reshma
Millet, the present state junior swimming champion, has made a
mark in the Indian swimming scene, winning over a hundred medals at
the state, national and international levels.
At the age of 11, in the year 1991, she learnt swimming and since
then there has been no looking back.
When she clocked 27.93 seconds in 50 mts freestyle at the national
championships held in Ludhiana in 1997, she became the first Indian
woman to
clock under 28 secs in 50 mts freestyle.

Nisha Millet - A

She
is undoubtedly one of the best swimmers India has ever produced. Winning
more than 100 Gold medals in both national and international competitions,
Nisha has entered the Swimming Hall of Fame with her personal effort
and guidance from her coach.
Participating in the Asian Championships (South Korea) this
April, she became the first Indian swimmer (women) to go under 1 minute
in the 100 metre Free Style. After participating in the Australian
Junior Nationals held at Perth recently, she now becomes the first
Indian swimmer to qualify for the Olympic Games.
In 1991 this young girl learnt the art of swimming, and from then
on she has been progressing rapidly, winning more medals than any
other swimmer of her age.
Nisha Millet created history in the National Aquatic Games '99
by winning 14
Gold and a Silver medal. At the age of 11, she was the fastest swimmer
of the National Games '94 and became the youngest Gold medallist
of the Games in any category. She has won medals in South Asian
Federation (SAF) Games (Nepal, 1999), Asia Pacific (Delhi:1999),
Asian Games (Bangkok:1998) and Asian Swimming Championship
(Bangkok:1996). In the Asia Pacific Games '95 held in Sri Lanka,
Nisha became the only girl in the Indian team to win a Gold medal.
She recently became India's first swimmer to be honoured with the
International Olympic Committee (IOC) scholarship for a year.
She is the first swimmer from Karnataka to receive the prestigious
Arjuna Award. The Piscean is studying at Mount Carmel College.
She is determined to study Sport Psychology. The color purple, restaurant
Casa Piccola, the ice cream parlour Corner House, personalities Will
Smith, John Grisham, Mahesh & Leander, Amy Van Diken (the Olympic
Champ), and Goa figure among her list of favourites. Another not so
ordinary interest for an extraordinary person is breeding fish.
Bernie Mulrey in Australia is presently coaching her. With
the Olympic Games round the corner, Nisha is all set to win more and
