The
tall, handsome man from Bangalore created history last year
by winning the mixed doubles in the Wimbledon along
with Leander Paes. He is known for his booming serves and hard-hitting
volleys.
Born in 1974, Mahesh has been educated in Dubai, Muscat and
in USA. Coached exclusively by his father on hard courts in
the Middle East, he has travelled extensively from the age
of 14 and has played in major tournaments all over the world.
Achievements:
Finalist in doubles in the Under-18 at Wimbledon, Rookie of the
Year - NCAA, India's National Champion - 1994 and 1995, winner of
1 Silver and 3 Gold medals at the SAF Games, represented India at
the Atlanta Olympics - 1996, took India to the Quarter Finals of the
Elite World Group in Davis Cup along with Leander Paes and represents
India in Davis Cup Singles and Doubles.
Mahesh received the Arjuna Award in 1996. He is also the first
Indian to win a Grand Slam when he took the mixed doubles
French Open along with Japan's Rika Hiraki. Mahesh Bhupathi
along with Leander Paes won the Wimbledon doubles in 1999.
After a gap of eight months, he has teamed again with his long-time
partner Leander Paes. Recently, the duo won the prestigious Japan
Open and have regained their old form. They are all set to take
Indian tennis to greater heights of glory.

Playing
tennis since a very young age, Krishna groomed his talent to become
a fine tennis player. He worked in the banking sector before giving
up a financial career in 1990. He was ranked India's number one Under-18
player in 1966 and number seven among men in the following year. He
represented India as a junior in World Championships, Orange
Bowl, Sunshine Cup and World Universiade in Tokyo. He has won the
Gulf, UAE and Oman championships. He also coached his son, Mahesh,
to become an international tennis star. Starting a tennis academy
in Muscat, he returned to start one in Bangalore, which is acclaimed
as one of the best of its kind.
