
The greatest ever tennis bonanza comes to India!
The US$ 750.000 ATP World Doubles Championship, the premier doubles
championship in the world has been allocated to Karnataka State Lawn
Tennis Association, (KSLTA) for two years. The championship will be
held at the Cubbon Park Stadium in Bangalore from December 13th
- 17th, 2000. The tournament will feature the top eight doubles
teams of the world. The top Indian duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh
Bhupathi are expected to play in this championship. M.Woodforde, T.Woodbridge,
P.Haarhuis, S.Stolle and others will be vying for the top honours.
In addition to this, there is a Legends Tennis Tournament that
will be taking place between the 9th-12th of November 2000. Bjorn
Borg, Pat Cash, G.Vilas, Rascoe Tanner, Vijay Amritraj, Henri Leconte,
Mansoor Baharahmi, Ashok Amritraj and Ross Case are expected to participate
among others.
Bangalore can boast of many tennis associations and clubs, which
have produced a good number of tennis stars. This is all thanks to
the fun loving tennis enthusiasts who have kept the game alive..
Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association
Located
inside the beautiful Cubbon park, it has played host to many of the
renowned Davis Cup matches. The association provides training
and guidance to the beginners, thereby helping them to build a foundation
in tennis. Its training centre offers summer camps for a period of
three months for individuals between 6 and 14 and also conducts group-coaching
camps.
