T he
revolutionary luxury passenger coach, Lextran-Raya, has been
launched by Dilip Chhabria Design Pvt Ltd, India's leading
automotive design house. The company's Chairman & Managing
Director, Dilip Chhabria, better known as DC, an alumni
of the Art Centre of Design, USA, and internationally famous
for his original and cutting edge car designs and makeovers, has
launched this latest Lextran Raya, to meet the requirements of an
increasingly discerning customer segment. The company gained valuable
experience in the bus segment, when it executed a project - the
Exuba, for commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland -
built on the Iveco Chassis and displayed at the Auto Expo
2000.
Mr
Chhabria sees high-end road transportation as a key alternative
commuting option in the near future, given the load on the railways
and the high airfares, as well as the importance being given by
the Central Government to the National Highway Projects. A demand
for passenger buses that deliver on quality, aesthetics and comfort
is therefore inevitable. DC Design intends to service this segment
by providing buses that meet these needs.
The first Lextran-Raya has been made for Sharma Transport,
one of the leading passenger bus operators in the country. The
Lextran-Raya will come in two versions - seaters & sleepers.
The sleeper contains 21 sleepers in 5 coupes. Each sleeper is equipped
with individual reading and sleeping lamps, A/C controls and a call
bell for the on-board attendant. Recognizing the importance and
criticality of the driver, both in terms of safety and drive quality,
an original ergonomically designed driver's seat and additional
secondary suspension has been provided under the driver's cabin
to make driving significantly more comfortable.
At a
press conference held on 23rd April in Bangalore for the launch
of the Lextran-Raya, Mr Chhabria said "In future, DC Design
will be focussing on producing limited edition and ultra luxury
seater and sleeper coaches, targetted at the premium segment of
travellers. They will cater to the requirements and specification
of fleet owners who wish to provide a superior travel experience
to their clientele and manufacture a limited number of buses, maybe
from 80-100 in the first year."
The company has its presence in Bangalore through its franchise,
Phoenix Auto Kraft who runs DC Trends, the auxilary
located on Infantry Road, for Lextran, which will be handled by
Phoenix Auto Kraft.
