Arakkal, this time, has lent his art for a better cause
- for the development of tourism in Kerala. Recently, the
artist went on a 11-day tour of his home state Kerala and
he captured his experiences on canvas. "Some (sketches)
I did on the spot like the fisherman at Marari Beach",
Yusuf Arakkal told bangalorebest.com. Those paintings
of Kerala were on display under the title 'God's own Country
on canvas' at Regency II, Windsor Manor for three days
from March 29-31, 2001. The art show was sponsored by the
Kerala Tourism Board.
Acclaimed the world over for his paintings, sculptures, gra phics,
portraits and murals, Yusuf Arakkal's creations are intense
and innovative. Through these series of paintings, Arakkal
has successfully showcased the traditional lifestyle of Kerala
and its culture. "The tour was very hectic and I travelled
in a car from the north to the south of Kerala. Since I travelled
by road, there was an opportunity to study many things. It
was really enlightening to meet different people. I did about
50 sketches during the tour," he recalled while describing
the state trip as fruitful.
Even the arrangements for the art show at the hotel had a
touch of Kerala culture. Coconut leaves placed artistically
at the entrance welcomed visitors to the venue. M ajestic
wooden pillars with beautiful hanging lamps were installed
at the corners of the of the hall where the art show was held.
An imposing, native boat at the entrance brought back vivid
memories of Kerala.
Stark Communications undertook the arrangements for
the exhibition, which included the tastefully done up interiors.
