Adi vrekar's
brush takes wings to bring alive the intuitive landscapes.
His exhibition of abstract paintings titled 'Stories of Miracles
on Water', were exhibited at Crimson Art Gallery, Safina Plaza,
in the city from March 8-24.
The basic components of his paintings are patches of contrasting
colours. From a distance the images look like solid playful
colour splashes. But from a closer range they reveal splendid
details of textural and subtly phrased vocabulary of fresh
and vibrant colours.
According to Adivrekar, the 'Stories of Miracles on
Water' depict people living along the Konkan coastline, experiencing
the mysteries of nature day in and day out. "The panorama
of the Konkan coastline, where I spent
my childhood, inspires me. The memories of places, faint recollection
of events and the constant changes around me act as the medium
for my paintings," says the painter about the inspiration
behind the exhibited series of works. He visits the Konkan
coastline often to get the required inspiration for his creative
art works.
Adivrekar depends largely on his rooted, rural responses
to transform elemental reflections of joy and sorrow into
firm symbols of shapes and forms to present a landscape of
his life.
Adivrekar, born in 1940 at Phanasgaon, Sindhudurg
district, has exhibited his works at various exhibitions in
the country and abroad. He has
worked as an Art designer at the Weavers' Service Centre,
Government of India, for twenty two years. He has also designed
and exhibited many tapestries in many world fairs through
Government of India organisations. His paintings have been
selected for various auctions by Sotheby's and other auction
houses.
Adivrekar's paintings are in the collection of various
museums in India and private collections in India and abroad.
He has also travelled abroad extensively on invitation. He
has participated in prestigious group exhibitions at New Delhi,
Mumbai, Kolhapur, Bangalore, Pune and Goa, as well as the
Contemporary Indian Artist Exhibition, Singapore. His recent
felicitations include the Governor's Prize at the Bombay Art
Society Exhibition.
