Anwar - transforming the familiar into the unfamiliar

GAnwar, the painteroing by the number of art shows taking place in the city nowadays, Bangalore is on its way to becoming, ome inot just the IT capital of Indi, but also an artist's hub. Anwar, a painter since 15 years, has exhibited his abstract art works at Crimson Art Gallery at Safina Plaza in the city from February 2-17, 2001. "Before taking up a work, I plan well," says the Madhya Pradesh born artist, now living in Bhopal.

Oil on canvas paintings by Anwar are framed in white "to give more attraction to the art," says Anwar. He is the disciple of renowned painter, late J Swaminathan. Swaminathan once described Anwar's paintings as gentle and sophisticated.

"The gentleness is the gentleness of the myriad hues of nature, the refinement that of a long tradition and culture. The embryonic formal suggestions are indicativeAnwar's Untitled painting of the potential, the scratching and doodle-lines significant, the colours hot and cold, palpitate hues that blossom and succumb - what Anwar paints is not the being but the state of its becoming. This state of becoming, however is bereft of violence of conflict and clash. It is as if you are watching a waterfall, or a storm in the sea with the sound track cut off. The visual palpitation leads you to lend an attentive ear to the silent music of creation," Swaminathan had said once about his student's works.

Anwar's works are all untitled. His paintings carry a sense of probing deepAnother of Anwar's painting within. It also contains a questioning of space and holds forth afundamental argument, with the series of transformation caused by overlapping structures within each frame.

In Anwar's abstract paintings, the familiar is made unfamiliar. In every painting the Transforming the familiar into the unfamiliarpainter has created a vertical line. Anwar, while talking about his art works, said that the vertical line represents the human spine. He compared his abstract forms in the paintings to the human body. He has used bright colours in all his works. The art show is open between 11 am. and 7 pm.

Anwar, born in Ambha (Madhya Pradesh) in 1964, has got a National Diploma in fine Arts from Gwalior. So far, he has held more than 17 exhibitions of his works, both in India and abroad, including USA, Australia and Japan. This is his third show in Bangalore.
