Two
talented artists, Nirmala Kumari and Bhavani
Shivaprakash exhibited their vibrant paintings
at the Chitrakala Parishat recently. Though their
theme recalled their childhood memories through
their respective art, contrast was crystal clear
in their works.
The colourful paintings of Bhavani Shivaprakash
spectrums the beauty of nature. Vibrant colours
and the precision of her works enthralled art lovers.
She has transformed the sweet memories of her childhood
into beautiful paintings like 'Somavarapet 5 (km)
stone'. Referring to a painting, Bhavani said that
she used to stand at the Somavarpet, 5th kilometre
stone (Coorg district) to wait for her school bus
and kept her school bag on it.
Bhavani
has captured the beauty of coffee plantations in
her native district. Her other works portrayed things
that were very dear to her heart. For instance,
the painting, 'Room' and the pair of slippers and
shoes entitled "My husband's shoes they were" speak
of sacred bonds too deep for words.
Born in 1968, Bhavani has a degree in B.Com and
B.F.A from the Ravindra College of Fine Arts, Tumkur.
She participated in several group shows like those
held by Sreshta Art Resource in 1999, K.K. Hebbar
Art Foundation, Camlin Art Foundation, Camp homage
to P.R. Thipeswamy-2000, Group show at Kalpakuncha
Art Gallery, Tumkur, L.K. Academy, Nagpur-1996,
Avanthika, Delhi-2000. She is a recipient of the
ABVP merit Award-2000. Her works have been bought
by many private and public collectors, both in India
and abroad.
C
S Nirmala Kumari's works have a unique finesse
of their own. This excellent painter from Tumkur
portrays the inner feelings of human beings. A lecturer
at Ravindra Kalaniketana, Tumkur, her paintings
were displayed under the title, "Series of Pets
and Memories".
In
her works, Nirmala has shown her childhood
bond with pets and domestic animals. Almost all
of her paintings displayed were in an abstract style.
Pet dogs and monkeys, animals like cows and buffaloes,
are very commonly found in her works. One needs
a deep insight to identify the paintings that have
been done 'from the heart' rather than cerebrally.
The paintings portray a young girl thinking about
her pets and domestic animals. The image of the
young girl in the paintings is none other than the
artist, Nirmala. Her own childhood experiences reveal
themselves in the paintings. "All of them may
not appear beautiful, since they are the description
of life experiences," she told bangalorebest.com.
