Saraswati Sangeet Vidyalaya
Guru Shyamala Bhave

This school is located at the Nehru Circle in Seshadripuram. Once you are inside the premises, you feel cool, calm and collected - the ambience is very conducive to learn the wonderful art of music. The marble statue of Saraswati, holding a veena in her hand, the traditional oil paintings, the trophies and the brass idols of gods and goddesses in the hall bestows divine inspiration to learn. Every inch of the place speaks of music.

The students are taught in an aesthetic way. "We teach them in the Gurukula system of education - sitting on mats, cross-legged," says Guru Shyamala Bhave.
The school has been imparting music lessons in Hindustani, Carnatic vocal, light music in all languages and instrumental music for over six decades. Instituted by late Pandit G.V. Bhave and late Smt. Lakshmi G. Bhave in 1931 with a devotion to music, the tradition is still being preserved and enriched by their equally well-known daughter Ubhaya Gana Vidushi Shyamala G. Bhave.

"We do not charge any fees to poor students. The money collected from other students is used for maintenance of the school, teacher's fee and the rest is given away as charity to the needy ones," says Guru Shyamala Bhave.

The classes are conducted in both Hindustani and Carnatic forms of music.

Vijaya College of Music

Vijaya College of Music    Famous vocalist and violinist late Sangeetha Vidwan
L.S. Narayanaswamy Bhagavathar
established the Vijaya College of Music in the year 1953 with the help of his students and well-wishers in the Basavanagudi area of Bangalore. From then onwards, numerous students have successfully obtained training in both the Lakshya and Lakshana aspects of music from this institution.

After Bhagavathar's demise, the college shifted from Basavanagudi to the Jayanagar area of Bangalore. From then, the college has grown in leaps and bounds but has always retained Bhagavathar's ideals. Recognising hidden talent in the youth and channelising it in the right direction was one of Bhagavathar's many virtues. The college has successfully maintained this goal of Bhagavathar.
Currently, it is headed by Bhagavathar's nephew and renowned violinist Prof. H.V. Krishnamurthy. Under his able hands many musicians have blossomed and made Karnataka proud.
Along with Carnatic music theory, Carnatic vocal, violin, veena, flute and mrudangam training are provided by the college. All the students of the college are not only excellent musicians but are also shining in other professions as well.
