Yavanika

BYavanika on Nrupatunga Roadangalore has many beautiful auditoriums. Yavanika, a mini auditorium, is one among them. Located in the heart of the city opposite to the Government Science College, the auditorium is surrounded by a beautiful garden.

Established in 1985, Yavanika is a part of the State Youth Centre, Department of Youth Services and Sports on Nrupatunga Road. The mini auditorium has a seating capacity of 304 in nine rows. The first floor is unique for its circular shape. From any corner of the auditorium, the audience can have a clear view of the stage and the programmes being conducted. On the ground floor of Yavanika, offices and toilets have been built. Yavanika has a spacious premises in the front where vehicles can be parked.

Yavanika is being utilised only for cultural and youthA musical rehearsal being held at Yavanika activities, says In-charge of Yavanika and Assistant Director, State Youth Centre, M Kasturi. The auditorium has good acoustic and sound system which is considered to be one of the best in the city, Kasturi added. The interior of the auditorium is attractive and comfortable. Wall mounted rotating fans keep the audience cool even during the hot days of summer.

Yavanika provides an ideal forum for the State's budding artistes to display their talent in the fine arts like music and drama. Rehearsals in drama and music are also held here.

ApUnique lighting system at Yavanikaart from scheduled cultural and government departmental programmes, cultural programmes are held here every Friday. There is no entry fee for the programmes. "Any one is free to attend the programmes here," stated Kasturi. Governmental organisations like the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the State Kannada and Culture Department hold many cultural events all throughout the year at this unique auditorium.
