Hi-Tech Bus Shelter

The model hitech bus-shelter in front of Bangalore Mahanagar Palike
High-tech Silicon City Bangalore will soon have a number of hi-tech bus-shelters like the one in front of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) Office. Gone are the days when waiting for a bus was bothersome. Now passengers can wait in comfort at the bus-shelter for their buses. The BMP plans to install about 100 more similar bus-shelters soon all over the city. Another hi-tech bus-shelter has come up on the other side of N R Square on Kasturba Road built by the BMP with the assistance of a sponsor.

The newly built model hi-tech bus-shelter in front of the BMP office at N.R Square has many features for the convenience of commuters. It has an elevated bow-shaped roof which allows for easy drainage of rain water. It's base has been elevated from the level of the foot-path and tiles have been laid. The elevation helps commuters get a better view of approaching buses. Its high ceiling does not hinder the light and this gives commuters a sense of security at night. More over, the drivers have been instructed by the authorities to stop buses right in front of the bus-shelter and not yards away causing hardship to the commuters.

The shelters are brightly lit at night, which should keep away pick pockets and other undesirable elements. Public service ads have been displayed at these shelters in the glare of the lights. These ads grab the attention of commuters. Utilitarian additions to this model bus-shelter are: Wide mouthed dust bins made of high gauge steel with separate butts with the anti-tobacco campaign at high pitch. These dust-bins are meant to keep the bus-stop clean. One is pleasantly amazed to see the four polished granite benches. They are long enough to provide seating for more than 20 passengers. These novel benches literally lure the standing commuters to sit on them. Ramps are provided connecting the footpath to the base of the bus-shelter for wheel chairs and, indeed, it is an unusually thoughtful gesture. For those commuters who leave their umbrellas at home on a rainy day these bus-stops are ideal waiting places.

While setting up these model bus-shelters care has been taken to ensure uniformity in the look and design. Hitherto, there was no uniformity in the look of the bus-shelters since various sponsors were installing their own design and frame. BMP is installing these model hi-tech bus-stop-shelters by accepting the offers of sponsors. Empire Publicity Services, one of the sponsors, has designed and built these shelters for the BMP. These bus-shelters can be ideal for public service advertisements and commercial publicity as well.
