It's a treasure house of shops and products. This place is
always teeming with p eople
- families, kids, college crowd, tourists, window shoppers.....
It's a huge building complex consisting of many shops and
showrooms. This particular building is filled with lots of
shops and good stuff, any guesses - yes it is the Alankar
Plaza on Kempe Gowda Road.
Over a decade ago there used to be a cinema hall called Alankar
which used to screen mainly hindi movies. Later it was demolished
and a shopping complex was constructed, known as Alankar
Pearl Plaza. It is spread across three floors with around
500 shops, surprised aren't you! Yes, there are around 500
shops and a minimum of 1500 customers who visit the Plaza
every day. There are discount sales all through the year.
The most amazing thing about this place is we can find anything
under the sun - be it a t-shirt worth just Rs 25 to a watch
costing Rs 2000, a saree costing you Rs 100 to even 5000,
the list goes on, amazing isn't! Another most
interesting thing we can notice is the kind of people who
come here. You can get almost everything in this complex,
right from a bookstore to a dry clean shop to a Titan Showroom,
Raymond's, foot wear, chaat joint
everything is possible.
And yes you can just spend your time strolling through and
window-shopping. You will not be aware of time passing by!!!
But of course there is a big condition in order to enjoy this
mall. YOU HAVE TO LIKE SHOPPING and yes you must be
feeling green enough to spend because you might not like just
one but many!!!! No two ways about it.
Muniappa,
a shopper who was flabbergasted looking at the number of shops
and the escalator there spoke to the Bangalorebest team in
Kannada, "I have come to buy few things for my daughter's
marriage and I have only Rs 2000 but I am sure that I will
get everything I want," with a smile.
There are also many people who come here to take a ride on
the escalator which operates from the ground floor to first
and second floors. It is a favourite with the kids, and villagers
spend hours just looking at it. Then there are others who
just take a walk around
and then have Pavi Bhaji at the chaat stall in the basement.
We also met a young boy of 10 years who was cutting
onions at a chaat shop in the basement of the Plaza. "Pav
Bhaji is the most popular dish here," says the young
boy. You can see people both young and old relishing it and
it is an experience in itself.
Ram Krishna, a middle aged man was engrossed reading an interesting
Kannada poetry book in his shop said, "I make it a
point to come to the shop everyday, but will not get involved
in the business, the amount of experience I gain when I meet
different kinds of people is very enriching."
There are Discount Sales throughout the year and the
rents here are very reasonable. If you would like to put up
any stall then Alankar Plaza is the right place for
you because you can actually rent a stall for just Rs 500
a day.
So readers, the next time you would like to shop for anything
check out Alankar Pearl Plaza!
