What's
Bal Gangadhar Tilak doing here?
When
you enter into The Bombay Store on M.G. Road in Bangalore,
a photo of Balagangadhar Tilak welcomes you! Yes, behind
the newly opened store, there is the swadeshi concept of late
freedom fighter, Tilak. The shop's collection of goods
reflect both swadeshi and the modern concept. The Mumbai based
store, with two branches in Mumbai and Pune, is now spreading
its branches southward.
The Bombay Store was started as 'Bombay Swadeshi Co-operative
Stores' on December 15, 1906 by late Dr. Dadabhai Naoroji,
which was conceived by late Manmohandas Ramji and Bal
Gangadhar Tilak.
The
secret of luring customers in a big way lies in its fine display
of goods. Housed in the new EGK Prestige building on M.G.
Road, the store has a vast array of contemporary merchandise
including aesthetic crafts and apparel. The month-old store
in Bangalore has been a crowd puller from day one. The
Bombay Store is going to open branches shortly in Chennai,
Hyderabad, Cochin, Calcutta and Delhi, according to Unit-in-charge
Executive, Mr Jogi Zacharia.
"Our service is on par with any international store. We
take personal care of our customers. While shopping at our
store, not once will shoppers get the feeling that they are
being watched, followed or hounded by our sales persons. At
the same time, our sales
persons are just a glance away, when they are needed," said
Managing Director, Asim Dalal at the opening ceremony
of the store in Bangalore.
And the reason for opening The Bombay Store in Bangalore?
Asim Dalal says, "We decided to open the store here
because Bangalore today is one of the most vibrant, fashion
conscious and trendy cities in India. It also attracts a lot
of domestic and international leisure tourists and IT traffic."
Presently, The Bombay Store in Bangalore has a fascinating
range of fragrant pot pourrie, hand-made candles, exquisitely
carved figurines, statues, in different media like stone,
wood and brass. Wall
hangings, silk paintings, lamps and shades, dainty and colourful
crockery and knick-knacks to adorn one's home. The store also
stocks an array of fine leather goods, jewellery aromatic
herbs, spices, aromatherapy oils, exotic salves and fragrant
candles. Children too have a wide choice of trendy clothes
and lovely toys here.
Spread over five floors, with each floor exhibiting specific
goods, customers are sure find shopping here a delightful
experience. Viva la Bombay Store!
