Sharing and caring are wonderful feelings and Humanitarian
Hands should know. Emphasising the strong presence of social
service groups in Bangalore, Humanitarian Hands fosters the
spirit of giving selflessly to people in need.
Humanitarian
Hands, which began operations in 1990, has strived
to make the world a happier place to live in for the elderly,
destitutes, orphans, disabled and unemployed.
Among its trustees is Ravi Melwani, owner, The Big
Kidskemp and they are now in the process of developing a
Humanitarian Home, a transit centre that will help eradicate
beggary in Bangalore. The organisation also assists those in
need and rehabilitates them.
The idea sprung off when Mr Melwani, with three of his associates,
Mahaveer, Pushpath and Pamela began service at
the grass root level. As he puts it "We found many people
on the road who were empty stomached and gave them food and
also in the dead of winter we would see people sleeping on the
pavement without any blankets and spread blankets on them."
The idea was small, but it later grew to form the organisation
it is today and its motto now is "Do you realise that thousands
of people don't have a meal, a roof or even a rupee that can
save them from torturous pain? - come let's heal them and rid
them of their suffering."
According to Mr Melwani, to serve the ones in need is not doing
a favour, but rather a moral obligation. In fact, he feels that
the creator has just given people an opportunity to serve the
less fortunate. In the near future, the trust aims to set up
a 24-hour helpline.
This
helpline, called Humanitarian Helpline, will facilitate
people in distress. All one has to do is call the number and
help is on the way.
Among their long term plans include the setting up of a 'Service
City' in Bangalore, which will take care of the basic necessities
for the needy like food, shelter and clothes.
You too can pitch in with your contribution, which will go a
long way in brightening the prospects for a lot of men and women,
helping them make the passage from one of suffering to one of
human satisfaction.
