Then Ramana Maharshi Centre for Learning (RMCL)'s Shrine
and Meditation Hall at Mekhri Circle is the right place.
The serene Ramana Maharshi Shrine and Meditation Hall of RMCL
is opened to all irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
The shrine and meditation hall was constructed in 1979 as
a non-profit, non-sectarian heritage and community development
organisation. The shrine and meditation hall is a division
of RMCL. The inspiration and strength for RMCL is Bhagawan
Sri Ramana Maharshi, who is regarded as one of the greatest
spiritual teachers. RMCL has many divisions, which renders
services to students, youth and general public
Ramana Maharshi Shrine and Meditation Hall:
It is open to all from 6 am to 11.30 am and 3 pm to 9
pm. The meditation hall stays cool even on the hottest day.
Regular weekly lectures are held here. Special prog rammes
and workshops on the teachings of Ramana Maharshi are conducted
particularly on Saturdays and Sundays. The beautiful garden
on the southern side of the shrine and meditation hall adds
beauty to it.
Publications Division: RMCL publishes
a monthly, 'The Ramana Way" edited by Dr Sharada,
a PhD in English literature. The magazine holds special articles
on life and teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi. The centre has
published about 100 books in English and various Indian languages
like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, etc. These books have wide
circulation all over India according to RMCL President, A
R Natarajan.
Music Division: The music division, 'Ramananjali'
conducted around 400 live programmes in India and abroad.
The Ramananjali is a musical ensemble of five vocalists and
six instrumentalists, which is led by Smt. Sulochana Natarajan.
The group has so far, recorded 140 audio cassettes in different
languages - Sanskrit, Kannada, Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu,
Malayalam and Gujarati.
Stu dents
Division: In order to expose students to the rich Indian
heritage, inter school competitions are being held at RMCL
for the past five years. So far, 30,000 students have participated
in these competitions which include essays, quiz, music, dance
and chanting. A large number of schools from different parts
of Bangalore participate in these competitions.
Dance Division: The free dance classes
on Bharatanatyam that are conducted here is one of the popular
activities of the Centre. Every year, the centre produces
two dance ballets which are presented at various auditoriums
in the city.
Medical Division: Ramana Maharshi Free
Clinic for Po or
is functioning at 18th Cross, Malleswarm. Dr N Krishna Swamy
and Dr K Raja Ram are the serving medicos here. Besides free
medical consultation, free medicines are also given to the
poor at the clinic.
Ramana Maharshi Heritage and Community Centre has been started
a new project in Sanjay Nagar, Bangalore for establishing
these activities on a long term basis. It has an auditorium
for performing arts with a seating capacity of 500. RMCL also
provides free audio-visual library and a heritage library
for the public.
