| Ravi
Melwani, Proprietor of Big Kids Kemp |
Ravi Melwani started his career as a second-generation entrepreneur
along with his father back in the year 1985. A man with acute business
acumen, he
joined his father in their 30-year old store on Kempegowda
Road a few years ago. He changed its name from 'Kiddy's corner'
to 'Kids Kemp', also changing its destiny. With his finger
on the consumer pulse, he soon started Big Kids Kemp, a success story
in sales in Bangalore. The Big Kids Kemp was to have the biggest retailing
outlet for kids wear. Apart from kids wear, it also showcases a range
of readymade garments and sarees. It has also been Melwani's constant
endeavour to add innovation in retailing business and generate excitement
for the children in his store as a part of his initiative to make
shopping a memorable experience. He thinks big, is constantly throwing
up new ideas for his store, which he has made a major tourist attraction.
He is also responsible for the introduction of a lot of 'first
time' concepts, like creating cartoon characters to welcome the
kids, operating shuttle buses between the shop and the suburbs and
conducting round-the-clock live in-store fashion shows. All these
efforts have made Kids Kemp an attractive tourist attraction, while
catering to the fantasies of little children.
In 1997, Melwani inaugurated 'Kemp Fort'. Built like a fantasy
castle over 3,00,000 sq ft, the Kemp Fort houses three exclusive stores,
each of which is an individual kemp in its own right, namely Saree
Kemp, Toys Kemp and Kemperor for men. To give his clientele an
opportunity to explore and venture into other markets, Melwani has
now planned to set up five hundred 'Toys Kemp' across
the country in a period of three years.
Melwani has a compelling urge to be involved constantly in projects,
be they commercial or humanitarian. He is known to be a very successful
businessman and a very compassionate human being. He is a firm believer
in the philosophy of PMA-Positive Mental Attitude, ie If you can dream
it
you can do it!
