Noted journalist, P S Chandrashekhar has been felicitated with
the national award, 'Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi' award for his
meritorious contribution
to Hindi-Kannada journalism. The award has been instituted by the
Central Hindi Institute, Agra, Ministry of Human Resource Department,
Government of India. Chandrashekhar is the first Kannadiga to be felicitated
with this prestigious national award.
Chandrashekhar, a veteran journalist has been reporting and
writing in both Kannada and Hindi for the last 50 years. He told bangalorebest.com
that he started his career as a reporter in a bi-lingual periodical,
Bharatvaani. Later on he worked as a correspondent for the Times of
India (Hindi) from Bangalore. "During those days we used to send
the news by telegraph," he recalled.
Chandrashekhar has worked for Hindi periodicals like Yojana
(Press Information Bureau's journal), Dharmayug and Viswajyothi. In
Kannada journalism, he has written articles for dailies like Prajavani,
Samyuktha Karnataka, Kannada Prabha and other dailies. For Vaarapatrika
(Kannada), Chandrashekhar has worked as an Associate Editor. He has
also worked as a correspondent for Rajasthan Patrika, the only Hindi
daily being published from Bangalore since three years.
"Though my mother tongue is Kannada, I am equally proficient
in Hindi," he said. He is a member to Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachara
Sabha, Karnataka Journalists Association and a life member of Kannada
Sahitya Parishat.
